Today I am FINALLY sharing our engagement story! Though it happened over a month ago, I still feel like I am on cloud 9.
Truth be told, we had been talking about getting married so I knew we would be getting engaged sometime in the near (or so I thought) future. This all started around January, so I was thinking he would propose on Valentine’s Day (cliche I know). Well Valentine’s Day rolled around, and while it was so special, he didn’t propose. This left me wondering when it was going to actually happen. Each time we went out, or had a night together I kept anticipating a proposal. But it just wasn’t happening. I started asking my family members and my best friends if they knew anything about it. The answer was always no.
Switching gears a little bit, during nursing school we had a jam packed schedule. On Monday’s we have what is called clinical where we go in to the hospital and work 12 hour shifts. It was pretty much my least favorite day of the week. We would wake up at 5:30am, get ready for clinical, then be out of the door by 6am. Those mornings I typically go to the hospital makeup free, with my hair up, wearing scrubs.
Backing up again… the night before clinical (Sunday) Charles completely sliced his finger. He ended up going to the ER in the middle of night and couldn’t go to clinical Monday morning on no sleep… so he stayed home. I woke up and went to clinical that morning and was texting him on and off throughout the day. By time I got home that night, I changed and we went to a local cafe to get some studying done for an upcoming exam. He seemed kinda preoccupied & I thought it was because the stress of school/being up all night.
We ended up leaving the cafe and going on a walk at our favorite spot. We were just talking about life… a typical conversation. We walked for quite a bit before we turned around to head back to the car. Before I knew it, Charles was knelt down on one knee, asked me to marry him, and I quickly replied with a big fat YES! But that wasn’t it….
After we got back in the car to drive back home, I started trying to call my family & friends to tell them what happened. No one was answering and I was like wow this sucks! We finally got back home and I walked in to my whole family and friends waiting there for us. There was a banner, my favorite foods & drinks, and a cake with our faces plastered on it. It really was so cute.
Charles did an amazing job making our engagement perfect. I still don’t know how he kept it all a secret. He put so much thought in to it and did everything he could to make it perfect… and that’s just what it was… perfect. I can’t help but think… How lucky am I to get to marry my best friend?
Immediately following me announcing our engagement on Instagram, we had a ton of messages congratulating us, asking us questions, and sending love. We are so appreciative of that and are excited to share this journey with you. Thank you so much for being patient with me as I finished nursing school.
