Hello hello, and happy Monday! To kick start the week, today we are going to be talking about one of my favorite topics – online shopping!
Online shopping is something you either love doing, or you are super against. Personally, I LOVE online shopping and prefer it over shopping in-store. When I tell people I get most of my clothes online, their reactions are usually the same… “I CAN’T shop online. I’m too scared nothing will fit right!”.
Online shopping is actually a lot easier than most people think. Here are the steps I take to ensure I have the best online shopping experience.
CHECK YOUR CLOSET – The first thing I do is look through my closet. While looking through your closet, ask yourself these questions: What style of clothing takes up most of your closet space? What styles do you LOVE? What style of clothing fits you well? And lastly, what do you need to add to your wardrobe. After you do this, you will have a better idea of what styles you should be looking for.
Quick tip: Summer is now in full swing… think dresses, skirts, shorts, and lightweight tops.
START SHOPPING – Now that I know what I want/need, I start browsing through my favorite online shopping retailers (Revolve, Nordstrom, Asos, Shopbop). I shop “in order” from head-to-toe. This just makes it easier for me to keep track of what I am currently looking for and also makes it easy to plan outfits! Start with tops -> bottoms (shorts/skirts/pants) -> dresses/rompers -> shoes -> accessories.
Make sure you utilize your cart! Add everything to it… and I mean every single thing you see that catches your eye and you are interested in. Just because you add it to your cart, doesn’t mean you are committed to buying it. After I have added everything I like to my cart, I go back to my cart (laugh at the total) and start comparing the items in my cart. Make sure you read the reviews for everything that is in your cart, that way if the sizing is off or there is another problem with the product, you will know. After I read reviews and compare items I start to “clean out” my cart and delete things that I don’t like as much as others, or things that have not so good reviews.
Quick tip: Always shop for accessories last. Once you have all the items in your cart that you are going to get, start looking for accessories that go with those items. You want your accessories to compliment your outfit!
GET PAID TO SHOP – Don’t place your order without signing up for eBates! Seriously! All you do is sign up, then a little button will show up any time you go to an online retailer. You click the button to activate cash back, then wait for your monthly check! I highly recommend doing this if you are going to be shopping online. Sign up here!
WAIT FOR YOUR PACKAGE – Getting packages in the mail is the best. I mean, who doesn’t love coming home from work to a package at the doorstep?! Once you get your package in the mail, try everything on and make sure it fits as expected. If it doesn’t – DON’T WORRY! Most online retailers (including the ones I listed above) have free exchanges. When you get the package they will already have a return label, or you can go online and print out a return label. Just tape the box up, slap the return label on it, drop it off at the post office on the way home from work, then wait for your new package to come. It really is easy!
PLAN ACCORDINGLY – If you have an event coming up that you are shopping for, make sure you place your order early enough and give plenty of time to ship. You don’t want to wait until the last minute – just in case!
